Mentorship

Often times in pastoral ministry it feels like we do our ministry on an island. It creates an atmosphere of isolation and loneliness. One of our main goals is to provide a network of relationships between pastors serving in Korean English Ministries.

Our first project is establishing a mentor/mentee program for pastors. We will help facilitate meetings and provide resources for both to help enhance the mentor/mentee relationship.

Stay tuned for more information on how to take part in the mentorship program.

The reality of the situation is that there are not nearly enough Pastors to minister at all the Korean American Churches in the North American Division. Because of this, we have seen an increase in the number of Korean Theology students entering ministry in North America. The potential issue that arises is that these Korean students have not been trained or are familiar with ministry in the American context.

In the summer of 2024 a new track under Sahmyook University’s Theology Department will begin. This track will be for students who are interested in doing ministry in North America. There will be in-class lectures on the history of the Korean-American churches, a breakdown of the culture and methodology associated with Korean American ministry, and training to help the students prepare for ministry in North America.

In 2025, the first batch of interns will come to Southern California and spent their summer at one of five Korean-American English Ministry churches under the mentorship of EM Pastors.

We hope this will create a bridge between North American and Korea to provide pastors who are equipped with doing ministry in a North American context.

Lay ministry

On thing that is abundantly clear is that no church can be successful without lay leaders. Because of the shortage of pastors in ministry, often times the burden of leading a church falls on our lay leaders who have not received formal training.

Kainos has partnered with West Coast Korean Camp Meeting to provide leadership training and resources at the English Adult department.

In partnership with the WCKCM Committee and the hosting churches, Kainos will help prepare and equip our lay leaders to return to their home churches and help lead and turn their church vision into reality.

intergenerational bridge building.

One of the main points of conflict in our Korean American churches is the relationship between the first generation Korean Ministry and the 2nd generation English Ministries. The key to efficient and effective ministry is learning how to bridge the two ministries and work in collaboration and synergy with each other.

Unfortunately many of our churches lack that collaboration for a variety of reasons. Kainos hopes to help bridge the divide.

One of the main ways we aim to bridge the gap is by using the services of Dr. Ruth Chung. Dr. Chung has decades of experience dealing with intergenerational issues and conflict management. Her lectures and seminars help both ministries understand the other and help create bridges to unite churches so they can continue to Kingdom build as a united church.

Kainos is working with Dr. Chung to send her to interested churches to receive her seminars and workshops.
